Free Event

On Wednesday 15th July Canary Wharf and the Royal Opera House, in association with BP, will present this special relay of Rossini’s Barber of Seville from The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden to a giant outdoor screen within the beautiful open air surrounds of Canada Square Park. All are invited to bring family and friends, relax with a picnic and enjoy all the magic and excitement of this special screening set within the visually stunning backdrop of Canary Wharf.

Rossini’s ever-popular comedy of intrigue and disguise returns in a production by Patrice Caurier and Moshe Leiser, first staged in 2005 and here conducted by The Royal Opera’s Music Director, Antonio Pappano.

Singing the role of the Sevillian ‘Mr Fix It’ on this occasion will be the great British baritone Simon Keenlyside, with leading Rossinian tenor Juan Diego Flórez appearing as Count Almaviva for the first time at Covent Garden. Alessandro Corbelli, widely regarded as the finest exponent of such roles today, takes on the ultimate buffo challenge of Doctor Vartolo, with Italian bass Ferruccio Furlanetto as his sidekick and calumnious accomplice Don Basilio. Joyce DiDonato returns as Rosina, the role that won her the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Singer Award in 2006, following the premiere of this production, and in which she has been acclaimed worldwide.

Space is available on a first-come first-served basis. No portable furniture, glass bottles or glass are allowed within any outdoor spaces. Outdoor events may be cancelled due to inclement weather. All details correct at time of distribution
