THE ATHENS OLYMPIC TORCH COMES TO CANARY WHARF

On its journey to Athens the Olympic Torch will be passing through Canary Wharf on Saturday 26th June and a whole host of family entertainment will be celebrating its passage between 12.00 – 5.00pm. The entire estate from Riverside to Jubilee Park will be crammed with acrobats, jugglers, stilt-walkers, street theatre and dance performances.

The torch itself is due to arrive in Cabot Square at 3.00pm but the celebrations start long before that. Live music from around the world will provide a unique soundtrack to this historic event with jazz musicians, a steel band, gospel singers, classical music and even a German folk violinist. The London Borough of Tower Hamlets Gymnastics Team will be performing at Canary Riverside at 12.15pm, 1.15pm & 2.15pm and there will also be sporting contests throughout the retail malls, children’s races and a treasure hunt in Jubilee Place. Canada Square Park will be the centre of the sporting activities with various races including egg & spoon, three-legged, parent/child and a sack race. Not to be missed!

Additional events are being added every day to this exciting date and further updates will follow.
