CANARY WHARF PRESS RELEASE

29th September 2004
THE JEWISH FEAST OF TABERNACLES IS CELEBRATED WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF A SUCCAH AT CANARY WHARF

To celebrate the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles (or Booths), Canary Wharf Group (CWG) has constructed a tabernacle at Montgomery Square. The tabernacle (succah) was designed by Kohn Pederson Fox Associates, the firm responsible for designing 10 Upper Bank Street leased to Clifford Chance.

The festival is also referred to as the Season of our Rejoicing, Sukkot or the Festival of Ingathering as it is also a harvest festival. It lasts for seven days (beginning this year on the evening of 29th September) and commemorates the forty-year period during which the children of Israel wandered in the desert, living in temporary shelters and depending on the protection of God.

CWG will be hosting a lunch to celebrate the festival at the succah on Monday 4th October.

Danny Seliger, Associate Director Administration at Canary Wharf Group, said,
“ The Succah is ideally located in one of the newest public areas in the centre of one of the most impressive built developments of our time. Its contrast with the rest of the buildings on the estate only serves as a reminder of the strength and spirit that can be achieved in even the simplest and most humble structures.”
