HEALTH & SAFETY AWARDS FOR NEW BARCLAYS BUILDING AT CANARY WHARF


Canary Wharf Contractors Limited (CWCL) today presented Health & Safety awards to the outstanding contractors that worked on One Churchill Place, Barclays’ new 160 metre high, 1m sq ft headquarters building at Canary Wharf. The winning contractors were presented with a cheque for £1,000 each.

Awards were presented to:

- Phoenix Electrical for ‘Best Health & Safety Performance for a Shell & Core Trade Contractor’. (At peak 150 men were on site. Phoenix Electrical will be using the money awarded to fund a social gathering for the personnel involved.)

- Kingspan Flooring for ‘Best Health & Safety Performance for a Fit-Out Trade Contractor’. (At peak 50 men were on site. Kingspan Flooring is donating its award money to the Royal British Legion.)

- Victor Buyck/Hollandia for ‘Contractor that showed the most innovation with regard to reducing risk through the development of new equipment, systems and procedures’. (At peak 80 personnel were on site. VBH is donating its award money to the Digestive Disorders Foundation. The contractor decided to donate its award money to the Digestive Disorders Foundation in memory of Alan Shorley of Universal Builders Supplies who was a well known and popular colleague on Canary Wharf’s Construction projects.

- Multi Services Provider (MSK) for ‘Outstanding contribution to the project and its Health & Safety performance’. (At peak 110 personnel were on site. MSK is donating its award money to the British Heart Foundation.)

The presentations were made by Dean Ricci, Director of Construction, CWCL, Eugenio Caruso, Director of Tenant Fit-Out, CWCL and Cormac MacCrann, Director of Construction with Responsibility for Safety, CWCL.

Dean Ricci, said,
“ It is always a great feeling of achievement when a new building has been safely completed at Canary Wharf and can be handed over to the tenant. CWCL was keen to recognise and thank the selected contractors for their outstanding efforts in promoting a safe and successful project.”
